Search "Shenzhen hardware meetup" and you'll find pages for groups that haven't met in years. Here's what we found when we checked each organizer's own page in September 2026.
Active
- Tech in the Tropics: a monthly meetup at Brasshouse bar in Futian, started by Joshua Woodard (The Sparrows). It's the closest thing today to the old hardware-meetup nights. Guide.
- SZDIY: open hackerspace night every Thursday, 19:00–22:00, Nanshan. Guide.
- Chaihuo Makerspace: workshops and hackathons several times a month; check its activity page. Guide.
- Seasonal: muShenzhen (20 Nov – 18 Dec), Maker Faire Shenzhen (12–13 Dec), factory tours. See Events.
Quiet or dormant
- Hardware Massive Shenzhen: this was a well-known monthly meetup for hardware startups, with talks and networking; the chapter page once listed over a thousand members. Its Meetup groups no longer exist, and the last activity we found was from around 2021.
- AI Tinkerers Shenzhen: the chapter page exists but lists no past or upcoming events, and invites people to apply to organise.
- Hardware Meetup (Luma network): the global network is active, but the Shenzhen calendar showed no Shenzhen events.
If you run one of these groups and it's active again, tell us and we'll list your events.
Why this matters
The gap is real: Shenzhen has one of the world's biggest hardware ecosystems, but only a handful of regular English-language meetups, which makes the ones that exist worth finding. Our Events page always shows the next confirmed meetup, and we add new ones as they appear.
