PackMojo

PackMojo is a Hong Kong company that lets you buy custom packaging the way you'd order PCBs: online, with instant prices and low minimums. You pick a box style, set your own dimensions, materials and print, compare prices across quantities, and order samples or production on their platform. Partner factories in China make the boxes and ship them straight to you.

Co-founder and CEO Wendy Chan came from SaaS. She was COO of mobile-wallet company PassKit and made the Forbes 30 Under 30 Asia list in 2018. Co-founder and COO Vincent Choi comes from printing and packaging, and also co-owns a packaging factory in China. CTO Christian Heine joined in 2021 after running IT at a listed multinational.

The range runs to 40+ types: mailer boxes, folding cartons, rigid, magnetic and drawer boxes, tubes, sleeves, paper bags, stickers and tissue paper. Inserts are a big part of the range, with foam, paper and fully custom inserts for mailers and rigid boxes. Their showcase includes a mailer box and insert for Death By Audio's Photo Modulator effects pedal and magnetic rigid boxes for Quantum-Touch, next to plenty of beauty, food and apparel brands. They're FSC-certified, paper materials have at least 50% post-consumer content, and printing uses soy-based inks.

Minimums are 100 units for mailers and folding cartons and 300+ for other types. Production takes 12-16 days, then air (1-3 weeks) or ocean (4-8 weeks), and you can split a shipment between the two. Samples range from a blank structural mock-up to a 1:1 pre-production box or a press proof, and custom samples are reimbursed when you order 500+ units. There's also a customer referral program.

PackMojo fits a hardware startup that needs a few hundred good-looking boxes for a pilot run, a crowdfunding batch or PR kits, and would rather click through a configurator than email factories. For very large runs, or packaging tied to a factory's assembly line in Shenzhen, working directly with a factory gives you more control.
