Dynacast Dongguan

Dynacast Dongguan is the South China plant of Dynacast, which calls itself a global leader in precision die casting. It's a 14,000 m² factory in Dalang that casts zinc, aluminum and magnesium parts to customer designs and builds the tools for them in-house. For buyers, that's a Pearl River Delta factory with a global group behind it.

The company's roots go back to 1912, when Otto Gries opened a machine shop in New York. His company developed a die casting machine invented by Louis Morin in 1936, and with it the high-speed miniature multi-slide machine. By 1938 they were die casting zinc zipper teeth. By 1987 the company was operating as Gries Dynacast. Since 2018 it has been part of Form Technologies, a Charlotte, North Carolina group that also owns Signicast (investment casting) and OptiMIM (metal injection molding).

The signature process is multi-slide die casting. Instead of a two-half mold, the tool has up to six slides closing from different directions. That lets it cast small, intricate zinc parts in one shot, often without flash and with little or no machining afterwards. Dongguan runs zinc multi-slide alongside conventional zinc, aluminum and magnesium casting, plus two small plastic injection machines. CNC machining, tapping, reaming and drilling are done in-house or through certified partners. Finishes include e-coat, electroless nickel, bright and black chrome, powder coat, black anodizing and micro-arc oxidation. The plant lists ISO 9001, ISO 14001 and IATF 16949 (the automotive quality standard).

Dynacast has won several NADCA design awards (NADCA is the North American Die Casting Association).
