What happens at this stage
You get finished goods from the factory to your customers or warehouse. A freight forwarder (a company that organises shipping and customs for you) books sea, air or rail freight. You'll also agree Incoterms, standard rules like FOB or DDP that say who pays for and is responsible for each part of the journey.
Why it matters
Shipping costs, duties and delays can change your margins a lot, and paperwork mistakes can hold goods at customs.
What it costs and how long
Sea freight is cheapest but takes weeks; air is fast but expensive. Budget for duties and taxes in the destination country.
Common mistakes
- Not knowing your product's customs code (HS code) and duty rate in advance
- Shipping lithium batteries without the right paperwork
- Leaving shipping plans until the goods are ready
Who helps
Freight forwarders and fulfillment (3PL) companies. Many Shenzhen forwarders consolidate small shipments through Hong Kong.
