Fanstar Mold (范仕达) is a plastic injection mold maker in Chang'an, Dongguan, with a fun specialty: the fiddly multi-cavity tools that turn out ballpoint pen barrels, caps and mechanisms by the million. Around that it builds two-shot (two-colour) keyboard keycap molds, hot-runner tools and molds for connectors, medical parts and even aircraft cabin fittings. Then it runs the parts on its own presses, with painting and assembly.
The founder has an interesting path. Chairman Iwan Fandra (范源洺) is from Medan in Indonesia and studied agricultural machinery engineering at Taiwan's Chung Hsing University. The business grew through a string of companies. It started with Vertical (Dongguan) Trading in Chang'an in July 2005, then Green Century in Medan in 2011 and a Vertical injection-mold factory in January 2012. A Jakarta company followed in 2014, a stamping-die factory in 2015 and an R&D centre in 2016. The present Fanstar (Dongguan) Smart Technology came in 2018. It got ISO 9001 in May 2022 and moved into a new 5,000 m² building in June 2023.
The shop floor is set up for precision steel work, with CNC machining centres, EDM spark erosion, slow wire cutting, grinders and deep-hole drilling. Tolerances go down to ±0.002 mm, and molds in steels like SKD61, S136 and 718H last over a million shots. The portfolio is all over the place in the best way. There are smart doorbells, fans, test kits and thermal scanners, car connectors and clips, aircraft luggage-rack parts and seat-back TV frames. Fanstar has more than 117 clients and exports to over 12 countries, including Japan, Korea, India, Brazil and the US.
Mold lead time is usually 30 to 45 days. Fanstar calls its service model "three-to-one" 360° service and handles export paperwork itself. Fanstar fits brands that need a hard-steel, long-life production mold, especially multi-cavity or two-colour tools for small precision parts like pens, keycaps, clips and connectors, and that want the mold shop to run the parts too. It doesn't offer prototyping, so get early 3D-printed or soft-tooled samples elsewhere.
